Signature move: The steady make — bids what he has, takes what he bid
“Four. That's what I got, that's what I'm getting.”
Reggie learned the game in Smitty’s barbershop, one hand at a time between fades, over about eleven years. He absorbed the old man’s discipline if not the photographic memory: know your hand, bid your hand, make your hand. No poetry, no drama. Four means four.
He coaches middle-school ball at the Detroit rec center and runs the Friday game there the same way he runs practice — everybody plays, everybody learns, nobody gets clowned twice for the same mistake (once is educational). Half the Front Porch generation came through Reggie’s Fridays, including PJ, who still calls him “Coach” at the card table.
His ceiling is honest: the Sharks read deeper and the Legends see around corners. But there might not be a more reliable partner in the game. Reggie has never once left you guessing about his hand, and in this game, that’s worth more than brilliance most nights.
