Junebug
St. Louis, Missouri
Signature move: The heater — one unstoppable stretch per night, nobody knows when
“I'm telling you, I can FEEL it coming. Deal.”
Nobody knows Junebug’s government name and it’s too late to ask. He’s everybody’s cousin — actually related to about half the tables in St. Louis, honorary at the rest — and he arrives everywhere like good news: loud, hungry, already laughing at a joke he hasn’t told you yet.
His game is streaky in a way that should be studied. Three hands of pure donation — overbids, wasted trumps, a nine played into a boss ten — and then, without warning, the heater. For four or five hands Junebug cannot miss. He bids like a Shark, plays like a Legend, and narrates the whole thing at full volume. Then it’s gone, like weather.
He still owes Big Walt a fish fry from a bet neither of them can fully reconstruct — something about a Boston, a rainstorm, and Walt’s brother-in-law’s grill. The debt comes up every single game. It is possible Junebug loses on purpose just to keep the argument alive.
