Front Porch
Devon
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Signature move: The joyful overbid — six! …five? Four. Four is good.
“My bad, my bad — run it back.”
Devon came to the game the way he comes to everything — loud, late, and delighted to be there. His grandmother taught him the rules over one Thanksgiving break in Milwaukee, and by Sunday he’d lost eleven straight hands and declared it the best weekend of his life.
He is, objectively, not good yet. He overbids out of pure enthusiasm, forgets what’s trump at least once a game, and celebrates his partner’s books like they’re his own — because to Devon, that’s the entire point. You cannot embarrass him. Dani has tried clowning his misplays and found out fast that Devon gets there first, louder, and funnier.
Here’s the thing the porch already knows: people who love the table this much always come around. Auntie Faye has quietly started seating him across from patient partners. The laugh stays. The bids are getting honest.
