Signature move: The soundtrack — brings the speaker, takes the jokes, keeps coming back
“Y'all can clown me all night long as the playlist stays mine.”
Tommy married into a card-playing family and discovered, at his first cookout, that “we’ll teach you” is both a welcome and a warning. Three years in, he’s still paying tuition — but he’s family now, and everybody agrees the cookouts sound better since he started coming.
That’s Tommy’s real seat at the table: the music. He reads a room the way the Sharks read a hand, and his playlists move from Frankie Beverly to Anita to just-enough-new without anybody touching the phone. House rule at three different tables now: Tommy plays, Tommy DJs.
The whist is coming along slower than the reputation. He overbids when the song is good — this is a documented, repeatable phenomenon — and his partners have learned to check what’s playing before trusting his six. But he takes every joke with a grin and comes back every week, and in this family, that’s the whole entrance exam.
