Nikki Spades

Oakland, California

Signature move: The show-close — wins the last three books like a mic drop

“I didn't pick the name. I earned it. There's a difference.”

Somebody at an Oakland house party fifteen years ago laughed when she introduced herself as Nikki Spades. One set later — a hard one, the kind you feel in your credit score — nobody was laughing, and the name was permanent.

Nikki plays with flash because the flash is true. She’ll announce her bid standing up. She’ll slow-play the final trick just to let the table appreciate the architecture. But underneath the show is a brutally clean game: she doesn’t waste honors, she doesn’t chase lost hands, and she closes like a door slamming. The last three books of a Nikki Spades hand are appointment viewing.

She’s got love for the up-and-comers — she runs a little game on first Fridays where new players play free and she narrates her own hands out loud, every read explained. “The show’s better,” she says, “when more people can see what they’re watching.”
