Malik learned the game on a North Philly stoop where showing panic cost you more than showing cards, and it shaped everything about how he plays. Dealt a monster, he shrugs. Dealt garbage, he shrugs the exact same shrug. Somewhere in between those shrugs he makes his bid, and you will get no further information.

He’s a Regular by the numbers — solid count, honest bids, the occasional lapse when a hand needs more math than cool. But the temperament is pure Shark, and everybody can see the trajectory. Ty Banks, who breaks lesser players with pressure alone, has personally leaned on Malik three separate times and gotten the shrug back. Smooth Eddie watched it happen and just nodded, slow, like a man recognizing something.

The day Malik’s counting catches up to his poker face, they’ll have to build a new tier. Until then: it’s fine. It’s all fine.
